Shake Shack Finally Arrives in Singapore’s North at Junction 8
It seemed just like yesterday when this global burger phenomenon just opened at Changi Jewel which drew in hordes of fans rushing down to create a monstrous queue that dragged on for hours. After a chain of Shake Shack outlets sprung up all over Singapore, it’s finally infiltrating the North with a Junction 8 branch.
Their ninth overall outlet in Singapore sees Shake Shack setting up right outside Junction 8, right beside Bishan MRT Station, in a standalone compound that spawns two storeys.
Like with all previous outlets, this swanky new building is emblazoned with eye-catching graffiti that runs throughout both storeys and its sleek grey facade, the work of commissioned local artist Aeropalmics.
On the first floor are the kitchen and cashier, accompanied by a few seats slotted into the right while the second floor is a roomy space where you can chomp down on Shake Shack’s burgers while Junction 8 and Bishan MRT station provides plenty of people-watching opportunities.
Shacked Up with SInful Treats
It’s a no-brainer what you should get when you decide to pop by — their burgers. If there’s one thing Shake Shack is particularly adept at, it’s keeping the quality of their Shack Burger ($9.70) consistent throughout their fleet of branches.
My first bite of the burger here at Junction 8 tasted just like my first experience at Shake Shack — juicy, exuberant beef and pillowy potato buns, capped off with rich cheese. Just the kind of top-notch comfort food that will keep you coming back, without being too expensive.
If you want to spruce things up, the Shack Stack ($15.20) is a must, trust me. Admittedly, I hadn’t gotten a bite of the crispy and cheesy portobello mushroom patty at Junction 8, it’s been reliably one of my favourites regardless of which Shake Shack outlet I visit.
But oh boy. While the Shack Burger itself is a pretty damn solid burger, the mushroom patty pushes it up several orders in taste when you are greeted with the impossibly luscious mushroom juices and a sinful deluge of cheeses.
However, if you need a reason to head down to Junction 8, Shake Shack also rolled out an outlet-exclusive Who 8 My Cookie? variation of their popular Concrete dessert. What tops frozen custard embedded with decadent chunks of caramelised cookies and chocolate from Lemuel?
As a denizen of the North, I can only say I’m happy to see them opening at Junction 8. Sure, I ain’t heading down to Bishan every day for their burgers but it’s great to have the luxury of grabbing their burgers without committing an hour to commute into town.
