[Media Drop] Surplus bread and coffee... made into [Media Drop] Surplus bread and coffee... made into what? Yes, 𝗜𝘁'𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗿 𝗕𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗿 ($8.50) is an upcycled beer collab between sustainability maestros @crustsingapore and local coffee roasters @bettrcoffee.
-
The result is a light cream ale with a smooth, creamy body where gentle coffee notes crept into its refreshing body. I enjoyed the gentle kiss of caramel bleeding into the malt for a sweet finish.
-
I don't get the "stout-like" qualities described by others, but maybe I'm just used to heavier stouts. Overall, a very palatable choice for those chilling sessions.

By far the best 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗸𝗲 ($18 here, $16 at Olivia's) in Singapore, with the second best lagging behind by some distance, in my humble opinion.
-
What makes @oliviarestaurant_sg's superior to all competition is its almond sable base and, most importantly, infusion of blue cheese. Unique to their rendition, it added an inspired savoury counterpoint to the gentle sweetness of cream cheese.
-
For all the extolling of its texture, mine didn't quite deliver the dreamy, euphoric ooze I expected. Nonetheless, I still revelled in a gorgeous silkiness which caressed the palate. A bliss further accentuated by the rich crumbly base and caramelised top, then chased by a sensual smoke perfume.
-
Considering the shortfalls in this particular slice, I'm sure I can only be blown away by their burnt cheese cake in its true unmarred texture.

Xiao Di is actually inconveniently located in a Se Xiao Di is actually inconveniently located in a Serangoon HDB estate, but somehow attracts droves of foodies. It's the epitome of a “hipster” choice for best 𝗛𝗼𝗸𝗸𝗶𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗲 ($5).
-
There's several things they do very well. There's that wet, gooey texture full of rich prawn umami, later bolstered by a complementary garlicky kick. Then there's that nice lick of fiery sambal aroma to finish.
-
Is it the best plate I've had? Maybe not, it hasn't got the memorable x-factor of plates like the smouldering Swee Guan.
-
However, there were faint reflections of other popular Hokkien Mees in this plate. Overall, it's a well-rounded crowd pleaser that will probably satiate any palate.

-
If there’s a set to go for, it’s the 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶 𝗞𝗮𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝘁 ($𝟮𝟲). There's good variety, all with fresh cuts and well-seasoned rice.
-
In particular the hotate was plump, juicy, and deftly contrasted by aburi-ed cheese, while the unagi was a decadent treat with its elegant char and foie gras sauce.
-
While I'm blasé to the idea of aburi and mentaiko on salmon, aburi lovers would love the 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗞𝗮𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝘁 ($𝟭𝟴). The fresh, tender cuts were easily a step above your typical sushi chains.
-
Thanks @eaterries for extending the invite!

Not many places share the same eye for aesthetics Not many places share the same eye for aesthetics with @lees_confectionery . Their creations are as much a treat for the eyes as the palate. Such as the new 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗻 ($𝟭𝟬) we tried on our recent Journey to the West.
-
This would make a nice sweet start to CNY with its striking scarlet façade. Its gorgeous shell hid an overflow of fruity strawberry coulis, which provided a nice piquancy to the sponge.
-
However, it was rather mild and the real star was the ginger torch flower and strawberry ganache. An exotic touch of ginger torch flower added this delightful sharp-spiced kick that tied the plate together.
-
Is Lee's Confectionery worth the pilgrimage to ulu Chinese Garden though?❗ 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗲'𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗴, 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝗶𝗼.

It's been a while, my secondary school love @subwa It's been a while, my secondary school love @subway.singapore. It's been years and you even reinvented with a snazzy new 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮 look. I picked up the courage to reignite a once fiery, youthful love.
-
I don't know about you, but I prefer to have Mac & Cheese in my Mac & Cheese. It was an obscenely deep dig just to strike some scant, shallow gold hidden beneath that baggage of acceptably-edible greens. I went back to the store to ask before I realised that was it — no joke. Maybe I'm the joke for believing. 🤡
-
I'm still smitten by the honey oat bread — of course, I always enjoyed it. Alas, unfulfilled expectations from false promises, and an ultimate lack of substance beneath that stylish facade? They say love is blind. Perhaps, but faded affections only amplifiy flaws. No hard feelings but you just ain't it boo xoxo ✨🖤
