Buona Vista has always been a bit of a neglected area when it comes to food — very few establishments in the vicinity are brought up when it comes to the debate for the best restaurants or best cafes in Singapore, at least not until you travel a bit further up to the Ghim Moh area.
There’s something many bars love to boast about: “we have pints colder than your ex’s heart.” So it’s only fitting that Heart of Darkness at Keong Saik is a bar that provides exactly what its name alludes to — cold, fresh beer straight from the tap.

Having been a regular at Yeast Side’s quaint hideout at King Albert Park, it was exciting to step into the spanking new Farrer Park outlet for the first time. This new space is as lively, unpretentious, and inviting — a trademark of the cafe, which also doubles as a craft beer bar.
[Update: Gone Rogue Brewing has closed.] In the most unlikely of places, somewhere in Bukit Batok, there’s a craft beer gem hidden deep beneath. The place is Le Quest Mall and the gem? It’s Gone Rogue Brewing, a craft beer bar that makes its own unique brews.
The charisma of a good pizza is undeniable when the dough, the sauce, and the toppings are all done just right. At its core, pizza is a very simple dish. So even with the prevalent movement of artisan pizza joints all over Singapore, I’m more than happy to welcome the unpretentious NY-style pies of Sonny’s Pizza to the fold.
